Quilting Classes…

All Squared Up Quilt: Create this fun easy quilt from our ‘lap size kit’ or make your own fabric choice. The pattern shows five different size quilts and the quilt blocks can be ‘scrappy’ or coordinated.

Beginning Patchwork: Step into the world of quilting with this wonderful introductory class. Create a wall hanging while learning to piece by machine. You will learn many tricks of the trade that will make even your first project look good! This class is geared for the beginner who wants to try patchwork piecing or for those who have tried it on their own and been dissatisfied with the final result.

Complete this class by doing some basic machine quilting.

Fabrics are pre-kitted for this class.

Campfire Throw Quilt: An old favorite here at Needlelyn Time but a lovely lap quilt to make in flannel or regular cotton fabrics. It’s also a wonderful way to use a preprinted panel or a large print fabric.

Crossroads Quilt: Try making this quilt from batik fabric or blend batiks and non-batiks. You’ll be impressed with the final results of this quilt that has a ‘trip around the world’ look. However, it doesn’t use that technique, as all the pieces are not the same size. Instead, a variety of rectangle sizes are used, as well as squares.

Use the pattern to make a crib, lap or bed-size quilt.

Diamond Medley Runner: A delightful new large runner that will impress your dinner guests. Our sample is made from some of the beautiful new batik fabrics we have available. No matter what your choice of fabric, it’s sure to please.

Folk Art Flowers Quilt: This is a lovely quilt that uses a fun ‘sorting, cutting and piecing’ technique to create flower blocks. It will make you wish it was summertime already. Once you have become familiar with this technique you may want to use it to piece more than flowers.

Geese in the Fields: This quilt is knock down gorgeous and couldn’t be more fun to make. It features a wonderful method for making ‘flying geese’ blocks. You will love the ease and speed of this project

HELP!! How To Quilt A Large Quilt On A Household Sewing Machine: Have you quilted on small projects, perhaps even taken a Machine Quilting ‘101’ to learn the basics of machine quilting but feel you have no idea what to do with a large quilt?

A prerequisite is to have the basic machine quilting knowledge, as this is not a beginning class. Come into the store and show us your pre-pinned quilt prior to class day and you’ll be properly prepared.

In class you will watch a demonstration on how to maneuver a large quilt. There will be a discussion period to cover ideas of what to quilt on the project.

You will then be ready to begin quilting your project with personal feedback from our instructor Linda. The class will be limited to 4 students.

Indian Peaks Quilt: Originally a block of the month project, this quilt will delight you with the ease of construction. Although it looks quite complex, with a little guidance you will probably consider this a favorite when complete.

Lucky Stars Quilt: Do you believe what they say about luck? It's true…you do make your own luck and even beginners will have good luck with these simple star blocks. Count your Lucky Stars and make your quilt any size you'd like. You can use fat quarters and 1/8 yard cuts to create the 15" blocks. How about using batiks as we did in our sample!

Machine Quilting “101”: Learn techniques to get those quilt tops off the shelves and into use in a fraction of the time of hand quilting. You will experiment with straight and curved line stencils. Try your hand at free motion quilting including the ever popular stippling method using your own machine. You too can have the satisfaction of telling everyone, “I did the whole quilt myself.”  The required kit includes fabric, batting, stencils, fabric marker and safety pins.

Minnesota Cross Roads Runner: You don’t have to live in Minnesota to appreciate this great looking runner. Although it uses a variety of different fabrics it is delightful to look at and would make a very wonderful gift. Make one for a friend who enjoys showing off their table or for your own home.

Pfaff Irish Leaf Runner: Our sample is done in autumn colors, but this runner would make a great spring runner. The pattern resembles an Irish Chain block and can be decorated with machine embroidery or simply pieced with your selection of fabric.

Quick Cozy Couch Quilt: A great project for the beautiful flannel fabrics that  are available. Simply choose a theme fabric and two coordinating ‘solid look’ fabrics and you are on your way. The end result is a warm cozy quilt that you will love to use yourself or give as a gift.

Serenity Table Runner: If you would like to make a runner that is a little more challenging this may be what you need. The runner can be made using two or three different fabrics and will present that little spark of challenge to keep your creative juices flowing.

Trophy Case Wall Hanging: What a great beginner project! It’s actually a lovely way to use a fabric with a large pattern repeat or a printed panel. The center trophy case of fabric is surrounded by strips that are broken up with some smaller blocks. Those blocks could show off a favorite motif, quilting pattern, appliqué, or even an embroidery design.
