Sewing Machine Tips and
Helpful Hints Tip #2.
Because
we sell quality sewing machines we are frequently asked questions about thread,
needles and of course fabric. We thought it would be of benefit to share some
tips with everyone, regardless of the brand of sewing machine you are using.
Our
tip this time is on thread. There are many brands of threads available
nowadays, just as there is a huge variety in the types of thread. One of the reasons we
have such a large choice is due to the weight of thread.
Remember
when talking about thread weight that the higher the number the finer the
thread.
We
recommend a 50wt. cotton thread for quilt piecing and a polyester thread for
garment sewing, though using cotton thread when sewing on cotton fabric works
well also.
For
machine embroidery or any decorative sewing we recommend a 40wt rayon or
polyester thread like Roberson Anton or Sulky which are made just for that
purpose.
We
also carry 12wt and 30wt cotton thread which are great of embellishing.
As
we suggested in our last tip be sure to get the right needle of the thread and
fabric you are using. Ask for help if you aren’t sure
