Cotton Fabric and Quilt Tip:
A few things to remember about cotton
fabrics…
Some changes may occur with
the fabric when it is washed and dried. Regional water quality, water
temperature, detergent varieties and dryer temperature can all affect
shrinkage, bleeding and fading.
We carry quality fabrics and
know they will retain newness if properly treated.
I’ve adding a few suggestions
to help:
If your quilt is dusty,
tumble it in a cool dryer for a few minutes and then shake it out.
If you pre-wash fabrics, do
not use hot water or a hot dryer. Once quilts are made they should be washed
and dried in cold water and a cool dryer or dried flat.
If you are making a quilt
with light and dark fabrics, it is suggested that you pre-wash the dark fabrics
to remove any potential bleeding. Use cold water for pre-washing.
Detergents can fade fabrics.
Preshrink without detergent and wash your finished quilt with a mild quilter’s
detergent.
